The court is open for telephone business Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the building is open to the public 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. except for holidays.

The 45th District Court encompasses the Charter Township of Royal Oak, and the Cities of Huntington Woods, Oak Park, and Pleasant Ridge. The 45th District Court is served by two elected judges and two appointed magistrates, with daily operations directed by Court Administrator Nancy Waldmann.

The 45th District Court has exclusive jurisdiction over:

  • civil litigation up to $25,000
  • small claims disputes in which the claim does not exceed $6,500
  • all landlord-tenant disputes and land contract forfeitures
  • criminal misdemeanors where punishment does not exceed one year imprisonment at a county jail.
  • felony cases-where punishment exceeds one year of imprisonment. The district court only handles arraignments, setting/accepting bail, and preliminary examinations on felony cases.
